Her Royal Highness's Traditional Festive Carol Concert Honours Charity Helpers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her yearly Yuletide celebration at Westminster Abbey, with guests including royals, celebrities and local heroes who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The large audience will hear a mix of carols, music and readings from performers including Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Focusing on Compassion and Love

The central message of the concert, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday, is kindness and showing love to others.

In the audience are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain tumour, and who founded an organisation, a support fund, to support families who have a terminally ill child.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often quietly and unspoken, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an extraordinary difference to the well-being of people," the Princess expressed in a message before the carol service.

A Steady Comeback

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own steady comeback to official duties after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, recently giving her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Musical Talent and Access

Those coming to the Abbey will be entertained by talented youth performers aided by the Future Talent charity, established in part by the Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for music lessons.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who plays the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been supported by the charity, with funding assisting with musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "amazing" to be taking part in the evening's event.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," Carys said. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to hone their artistic talents.

A Sisterly Duo

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will be present at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Attending the service will be representatives of different generations.

That will include Saphia Turner, aged nine, winner of a young hero award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to raise money for food banks.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been adorned with specially made wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Taking to the stage will be Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a nautical singing ensemble, Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "a dream come true."

This annual carol service will be televised and shown on a major network on Christmas Eve.
